How we approach our problems in life can say quite a bit about who we are as people.
There are numerous approaches to the hurdles of life, though today we will be focused on both
the bulldozing and disciplined approaches and their relationship to resistance.
With Bulldozing, we drive straight through obstacles and there is little room for nuance or
compromise. There can only be winners and losers in this zero-sum game. In addition, it can lead
to terrible and unfulfilling relationships with not only everyone in your life, but even yourself.
Bulldozing through issues puts us at odds with the world and creates an environment where it is
impossible for us to succeed in anything we attempt.

When we approach our issues with a more measured, disciplined response, we are
ultimately exercising good judgement. This requires us to use our free will to govern and control
our emotions so that we are not driven by them. When a problem arises, however minor or
severe, a disciplined person can act rationally and reasonably to overcome it. It is a level-headed
response that takes the bigger picture behind our actions into account. We may not love
exercising often, but a disciplined mind perseveres through the pain or discomfort of the moment
in service to the glorious end goal.

Growth, healing, exercise and success in your career all require discipline. And a life
devoid of discipline can put us at the mercy of the whims of others. It is limiting yourself to the
point of walking away from your goals and dreams. When we do this, we give in to our
resistance and let it rule us. Yet attempting to simply bulldoze through resistance can be just as
damaging, as it often leads to defeat or relapse. Someone starting a vigorous and ambitious
workout routine may fall to injury or succumb to burnout if they take on too much too quickly.

When we engage with resistance, we have the opportunity to understand where these
feelings come from and can take action to overcome them. This requires paying attention to our
resistance when it arises and interrogating it, as we attempt to understand our mental and
emotional patterns. Of course, the why behind our resistance is key in controlling our emotions,
and leading to a more healthy, disciplined lifestyle.
